OK so we’ve got a confession to make. One that as we run a stationery shop on Etsy we really shouldn’t be making…… but anyway….here it is!
We’re not that good at gift wrapping!
There you go. We’ve said it. However we’ve had to get good! One of the most common questions we got asked when we first started selling stationery sets was ‘do you offer gift wrapping?”. Considering we were also starting to sell gift wrap, it was fast becoming a necessity to offer it as an extra. We do now offer it for our stationery sets and have spent many hours perfecting the gift wrapping process to make our sets look extra special. We still get many people who choose to buy our gift wrapping as a product in it’s itself alongside our letter writing products so we thought we would give a tutorial on how we wrap them using a single sheet of A3 paper.
You will need :-
1 Sheet of A3 Wrapping Paper (Available from our shop – http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CottageRts )
1 Gift Tag
Double Sided Tape
Length of Gold Elastic Cord
Start by laying your sheet of gift wrap pattern down on your work surface. With the long sides at the top and bottom and short to the left and right. Place the stationery set in the centre also faced down so the short sides are at the top and bottom.
Next we need to crease the paper in the places it is eventually going to be folded. So fold either side of the wrapping paper into the centre, crease and then unfold. Next do the same for both the top and bottom. (The top and bottom sides are not traditionally as large as they sometimes are, be but trust us, this way works too!)
Step 1 & 2 – Prepare and crease paper for wrapping.
3) Next fold over the edge of either the right or left side by about a cm. This ensures a neat seam.
Step 3 – Create a neat edge.
4) Put a piece of double sided tape onto the edge you have just folded. Fold the left and right side of the gift wrap together, making sure the side with the tape overlaps on top. Remove the double sided tape backing and secure.
Step 4 – Fold over sides and secure.
5) The next step is to fold the short sides. As we have already creased these we have an idea how much room we have which is crucial when wrapping stationery products as you don’t want bent writing paper! Fold over the bottom edge a small amount, enough for you to put the double sided tape on, and then fold over again, remove the tape backing and secure. Repeat for the top edge. (This step is quite intricate because of the amount of room left to play with, but if your careful, it does work). Now you should be left we a gift looking similar to the one below.
Step 5 – Fold over top and bottom of gift wrap and secure.
6) To make your gift look extra special you now want to add the gold cord. We recommend the elastic type as it always fits snugly and looks professional. Start by sliding your length of cord behind the gift, bring up either side of the cord, cross them over so then the each end of the cord is point towards the top and bottom of the gift as seen below.
Step 6 – Thread the cord around the gift.
7) Turn the gift over, cross each end of the cord under and over the horizontal length of the cord and tie knot like you would shoelace. Once the knot is secure, this is when you add your gift tag. Finally finish you gift wrapping off by tying a bow and cutting of any excess gold cord.
Step 7 – Tie a knot in the cord and attach the gift tag.
And there you go…..you should have a beautifully wrapped stationery set. We hope you found our gift wrapping tutorial useful and don’t forget that we do offer gift wrapping for small extra fee on our stationery sets as well as selling gift wrap individually.
