4 Reasons Why Using Paper Can Be Better Than Always Relying On Technology

In a world where we are constantly in touch with technology it is easy to dismiss the relevance of traditional stationery items like notepads and notebooks. Most of us carry our mobiles everywhere we go, so it makes sense to have all our notes and reminders ready within one easy click. Surely though there are times when physically writing something down on a piece of paper can be better then on your phone or computer? We believe so! With this in mind we thought we would list our four favourite reasons below.

1) Writing something down on paper can be easier than writing it on your phone.

We know what you’re thinking – but remember we said ‘can be’ not ‘always’ easier! How many times have you been on the phone when someone gives you information. If you’re using your mobile you have to try and make a note without accidentally cutting the person off on the other end of the phone. Or if your on a landline, you have to try and type one handed or turn on speaker phone – which definitely isn’t always appropriate……. Anyway, wouldn’t it be so much easier to have a lovely desk writing pad (….lets say with foxes on it….) which you can simply jot any information down, whilst simultaneously being able to speak to the person on the other end of the phone.

2) If it’s not out of sight, it’s not out of mind.

Ok so yes, there is such a thing as reminders that your computer or phone magically alerts you to something you needed to remember. They’re great. We love them too. However we get so many alerts, it is so easy to dismiss them without actually taking them in. We’ve found if it is written down right in front of us, on the desk, notice board, fridge or wherever, we are more likely to remember to do that very important thing. Additionally, there’s something about physically writing something down that seems to help us remember the details of it better. Our brains just seem to take it in more. But then again that could just be us.

3) Physically writing information on paper can be a great back up when things go wrong.

We do live in the 21st Century and are aware accounts linked to your email are a wonderful thing allowing you to transfer details between devices. What happens when the WIFI goes down (we know, scary!), your laptop can’t seem to get past the opening page (we’ve been there) or you drop your mobile in the dogs water dish (better than the toilet). Worst scenario your information could be lost forever. Having information written down can save a lot of time in the long run, if any of these situations occur.

4) Physical stationery looks good on your desk.

Having a lovely notepad or notebook on you desk, or by you phone can help brighten any workspace. It can motivate you to get on with the important stuff, help you look professional to clients or simply make you smile.

So there you go. There our four reasons why we feel using physical paper products can at times be better than relying on technology. We would love to know if you can think of any others!

Now, as stationery designers, this is the part where we direct you to our range of lovely notebooks, lined Fox Notepads and Forget-Me-Not reminder cards. Do you see what we did there……. Anyway If you would like to take a look, follow the link to our online stores here.
